Today’s breakfast

One can think of eggs in many ways (including, in the case of my brother John, not at all), but this is one of my favorite breakfasts. No two iterations are the same, what with the variability in eggs, the heat of the pan, the attention paid to the magic moment for over-easying, the state of the toast… Nothing special, but mine own:

…and sambal oelek and a touch of pepper, on pumpernickel:

Familial profile

We don’t usually see our own profiles, especially when they are artfully obscured by beards. This one (part of the preparation for today’s adventure in dental technologies) disclosed that MY profile is eerily reminiscent of that of my father and my brother David… and the chin is just like that of brother John too.

Awash in memories

I’ve been scanning negatives from 1963, when I was just beginning to think of myself as A Photographer. I’m mulling over some explanatory text for the project, and perhaps I’ll put it up here as it unreels. Meanwhile, here’s one that may or may not entice you into further explorations of my Flickr photostream:

King Coal

Doc Searls has some great pictures of Powder River coal lands (see his Flickr set), and he points to John McPhee’s 2005 articles in the New Yorker. After I’d read the articles in 2005 I did a bit of link-gathering and Google Earth messing, and it’s still worth a look as an addendum to Doc’s photos. As I updated the links on that page I realized how rusty I am with the mechanics of FTP… and in fact a lot of my former skills seem to have gone walkabout.
