Previous versions of the course were Liberty-centered and included computer skills that are not particularly relevant in the new network environment. The Fall 1997 incarnation focused more on information retrieval and use, and less on information technology.

Week 1: books and the Web, mostly

Week 2: tertiary and quaternary literature, mostly

Citation format: Dr. Knox's group should use the journal Ecology as the model; Dr. Simurda's group should use Journal of Bacteriology as the model.
The example of myostatin is useful because it's so new that it doesn't appear in many of the indexes yet, but it is possible to use various tools to explore and learn about the topic.
