Grading, marking, evaluating...
As an overall scheme:1/3 on the Project,
1/3 on the various Assignments,
1/3 on things we do in class
But what do I mean by each of these?
- Project: you'll define some topic of particular interest somewhere in the realm of anthropology of East Asia and build a suite of linked web pages as
an introductory guide to resources (books, electronic resources, perhaps other media) on the subject, so that others could have a better starting place than what you found to start with. More details soon --for the moment, start thinking about what really interests you. I'm more interested in having you work on something you really care about than in constraining your choices, but what you end up doing will be negotiated with me.
- Assignments: specific to-do things that appear under this heading on the course home page, always with a due date specified. I care about things being done on time, and I admire overkill... I'm intending to put a lot of energy into the course, and expect that you will, too.
- In-class: I won't necessarily 'grade' the writing exercises and other things we do on (more or less) the spur of the moment, but it's important to me that you do them and link them on your course pages. Obviously this is partly a cleverly disguised incentive not to miss classes...and you should expect to do the in-class assignments if you have to be absent. Most of the GIS work will be in this sector.
