{"id":3120,"date":"2017-04-08T16:48:33","date_gmt":"2017-04-08T20:48:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/oook.info\/blog\/?p=3120"},"modified":"2017-04-08T16:48:33","modified_gmt":"2017-04-08T20:48:33","slug":"a-ferry-remembered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oook.info\/blog\/?p=3120","title":{"rendered":"a ferry remembered"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While hunting for historical photos of Boston&#8217;s Financial District, I happened upon the work of Herald-Tribune photographer Leslie Jones, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalcommonwealth.org\/search?f%5Bcollection_name_ssim%5D%5B%5D=Leslie+Jones+Collection&#038;mlt_id=commonwealth%3A8c97mn30p\">archived at the Boston Public Library<\/a>, and found this image of the Last Trip of the East Boston Ferry (1952), often called &#8220;the Penny Ferry&#8221; after the fare for passage. <\/p>\n<p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/oook.info\/photo\/lastrunEBostonferry1952.jpg\" alt=\"East Boston Ferry on its last trip\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalcommonwealth.org\/search\/commonwealth:8c97nf60b\">another view<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\nHearing that the ferry would be ending its service, my father made a point of taking me to Boston to put MY penny in the turnstile slot and make the voyage to East Boston and back.
