Her stuff is emphatically <i>not<\/i> easy-listenin&#8217;, and it&#8217;s difficult to know where to start when introducing her to people who&#8217;ve never heard her. But consider two brief outtakes from a 2004 radio interview (from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gaepis.org\/index.htm\">Hellenic Public Radio<\/a>, but no longer available in their online archive) as a jumping-off place: <a href=\"http:\/\/oook.info\/mp3s\/diamanda1.mp3\">gales of laughter<\/a> (0:26) and <a href=\"http:\/\/oook.info\/mp3s\/diamanda2.mp3\">on blues and rembetika<\/a> (1:54).<\/p>\n<p>\nNow, if you dare, try <a href=\"http:\/\/diamandagalas.com\/serpenta\/audio.htm\">something from La Serpenta Canta<\/a>. And, if you survive the intensity of that, move on to <a href=\"http:\/\/diamandagalas.com\/defixiones\/\">Defixiones, Will and Testament<\/a>, which is &#8220;dedicated to the forgotten and erased of the Armenian, Assyrian, and Anatolian Greek genocides which occurred between 1914 and 1923&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\nWhew.
