File Transfer Protocol (ftp) allows you the privilege of attaching to a distant computer and requesting that files from its directory structure be sent to your home directory --whence they can be extracted and printed out.

What follows is a transaction with net.bio.net in which I log on by ftp as 'anonymous' and then view directories, change directories, GET a file (which is sent to my Liberty home directory), and exit from ftp. If I had wanted to move UP a level in the directory I would have issued the command cd .. --change directory upwards.

$ftp net.bio.net
login: (here I type anonymous)
Anonymous login ok, send ident as password
(here I type my username@wlu.edu)
230 Guest login ok, access restrictions apply.

You can READ the retrieved file while it's in your home directory by typing the unix command more filename (in this case it would be more decfaq ) at the $ prompt. You can delete the file from your home directory once you no longer need it (e.g., after you've extracted it to a disk) by the unix command rm filename (in this case rm decfaq )
