starting the Trees/Wood book
the author demonstrates a capability, 1947
Perhaps we all have specific trees in our background, ones we remember as individual talismans or perhaps as locales for significant life events. The ancient cedar tree on the shore at Blairhaven, in Duxbury MA, is such a one for me.

The house where we spent summer months is gone now, and the whole property has been denuded of its former forest and turned into a town greensward, but the cedar tree somehow lives on.

When I was young the tree was hollowed out and you could climb inside it. Some years later I introduced Betsy to it, and she explored its possibilities during an early photographic expedition.
