Headings, and can be very useful in locating CORRECT searching terms.

including related search terms (RT), narrower search terms (NT), broader 
search terms (BT), and USE FOR indications of terms not used in the 
Library of Congress system.
<p>
A subject heading search (H on the Annie menu) for 
'Latin America' produces:

--but W (keyword) searches are more sensible places to begin, even if some 
of their results are irrelevant.
