Searching on the WWW

At first the Web may seem anarchic, but a great deal of effort is now going into organizing its vastness. There is no single solution to the problem of finding what you are seeking, but there are a number of approaches you can take:

Guides to the Web
- At the moment YAHOO is the most interesting and powerful of the Guides, growing rapidly as people contribute links which are then added to the classification scheme
- W&L's own Netlink is another important guide, site-oriented to a greater degree than YAHOO, and also allowing access to gopher and other information universes
Indexes of Web documents are the work of webtending 'spiders' and robots, which connect to Web sites and retrieve and index documents. You can search these services by keywords and retrieve lists of links to documents containing the specified words. Web Indexes and Hotlists under the 'Help With Electronic Access' menu choice on W&L's Home Page lists several. Among the most popular:
