Browsers are the software that makes it possible to view Web documents.
- Lynx is the text-only browser that appears when you choose
"Campus Information System" from the Liberty menu; you can also type
lynx at the Liberty $ prompt to awaken the lynx browser
- Netscape is currently the most popular graphic
browser. It is often mounted directly on a local PC or Mac (as in many
offices and some labs --in the Robinson Mac lab, for example), but it can
also be mounted on a local network (as it is in the Parmly and Language
labs).
It is possible to mount Netscape on a home-based Windows machine and then
dial in to Liberty. Maximum speed at the moment is 14.4K --which will
seem very slow in comparison to the lab machines. By September it will
be possible to dial in from Macintosh machines as well.
