Oil pressure (blue) from the Governor controls the position of a piston linked to the throtlle valve. Downward movement of the piston acts on a lever which pulls up on the Throttle Valve spindle, opening the valve.

High Pressure Steam (red) from the boilers at 600 pounds per square inch (p.s.i.) and 850 degrees Fahrenheit flows from the Steam Chest to the "Nozzle Box" or "First Stage".

Nozzles direct steam flow to the rotating Blades or "Buckets."Between each rotating "Stage" is a fixed nozzle which directs the expanding steam (tan) to the next row of turbine Blades.

Exhaust Steam (yellow), reduced in pressure and temperature to about 35 p.s.i. and 340 degrees Fahrenheit, is piped across to the Low-Pressure Turbine which converts the remaining heat energy to rotary motion.
