Transition to ArcGIS

I wrote a proposal for a Summer 2002 R.E. Lee project which was not funded (Building the Infrastructure to Support ArcGIS at W&L), which lays out the necessary steps as I saw them a year ago.

Our site license for ArcView was transferred to ESRI's ArcGIS package when it was released in 2001. While we still have and use ArcView 3.2, the added features of ArcGIS and the shift of ESRI support to the new package make it necessary to convert our teaching and research uses to ArcGIS. ESRI's Virtual Campus offers an online course ("Migrating from ArcView 3.x to ArcView8) which will handle many of the issues of the transition.

Among the necessities in the transition will be the rewriting of existing ArcView tutorial materials, written by myself and others over the last few years.
