A professor in the Politics department asked me about the feasibility of merging the data from a CD-ROM of the Human Development Statistical Database (199) with other data sources, and using ArcView to allow her students to explore the augmented dataset. I messed around with Excel and Access and finally produced a composite dataset, accessible via ArcView and ready for additional data. A work-study student was available to do the mickeywork, under my direction, and she progressed quickly from no Web skills to confidence with the intersection of PhotoShop, ArcView, Excel and Netcscape Composer.
