The New Car

Canadians and Americans are besotted with their cars. A common ritual is photographing the owner(s) in or on a new car, and this pair is a particularly eloquent version:

The subtleties of framing speak volumes: in the upper picture, it's clearly a picture of the car; in the lower it's a picture of him in the car. Consider who took each picture. Use the evidence of his expression to construct the thoughts going through his mind. Ask yourself: did she get to drive this car?
