Checkout Rules
Students may check out books for the academic term. They must be returned or
renewed by the last day of exams each term. (Faculty may check out books
for the
academic year. Community users may check material out for two
weeks only.)
Recalls
After a book has been checked out for TWO WEEKS it may be recalled if
another person requests it; the borrower must then return it by the new
due date (3-4 days after recall). Recalled books are subject to a fine
of $1 per day when returned late. To recall a book you fill out a slip
at the Circulation Desk; the Library will call you when the book has been
returned and is being held for you at the Circulation Desk.
Reserves
"Closed" or "Cage" Reserves are kept
behind the Circulation Desk and may be checked out for two hours (a few
have longer checkout periods). Ask time due when you check an item
out. There is a fine of $1.00 per hour or any portion thereof for
cage reserve items returned late. "Open" Reserves are on Lower
Levels 2,3 or 4. They must be used in the building and may not be
checked out. They should be returned to the shelf when you leave the
building.
Reference Books
Books in the Reference area do not circulate and should not be removed
from the Main Level except for copying purposes, after which they should
be returned to Main.
Periodicals
Periodicals may not be checked out. Some current popular magazines (Time,
Newsweek, U.S. News & World Report, Sports Illustrated, National
Geographic,
Consumer Reports, Car & Driver, Road & Track) are kept behinnd
the Circulation Desk and are checked out as reserve items to be used in
the building and returned within two hours.
