Alernate ways of reading and writing?

What I'm thinking of is certainly the online and hypertext composition, but I'm also interested in experimenting with that bit from Patrick Dickson's Futurewise on the "third millennial skill" of text scanning. My excerpts from Johnson's book are the sort of thing I have in mind.

In my own evolution as a writer and researcher I've tried out lots of different adjuncts --mapping, various formats of journal-keeping and note-taking, and so on. It's probably more important to try things than to settle on any single thing and stick to it no matter what. New media come along all the time, and need to be experimented with. For me, the web was THE ANSWER to my long-term problem of how to keep track and how to produce material for audiences. And more generally, hypertext allowed me to allude, to digress, to connect...
