Assignment 4 has TWO parts:

1. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT today or tomorrow to see your faculty mentor NEXT WEEK, and remember that there won't be a class meeting on Thursday 3 February.
   You should take with you to your appointment these things:
   • the Review Article you found and printed/copied that seems the best you can find

   • whatever seems like the single BEST Primary/Research article you have been able to find by the time of your meeting --ideally a copy of the text, but if your candidate for "best" isn't in a journal you can find at W&L, at LEAST bring the citation and the article's abstract.
   • a printout of your RefWorks bibliography as it is just before your meeting

   The purpose of this meeting is for you to clarify what your topic is or is becoming by discussing it with your mentor. You should have some ideas about that from your searches and reading, and be prepared to take an active role in the meeting --it's not just an opportunity to say "tell me what you want...", though I anticipate that your faculty mentor will give you some guidance about direction and approach.

2. By 9 PM on Tuesday 8 February you should have
   • completed log entries showing your DATED progress in using the appropriate searching tools (minimally Web of Science and Cambridge Scientific Abstracts --though for some people and groups, PubMed may also be important) to find Primary articles. The essential purpose is to find the right articles, and there is no "right number".

     You should make entries before and after your appointment, and the latter should reflect whatever advice your faculty mentor gave you about searches and topic development. I hope to see a narrative of your search process, including the search terms you used.

   • As part of your 8 February entry in the log, include a citation for (1) your "best" Review article AND (2) your "best" Primary article, using the bibliographic format for the journal Ecology, as exported from your RefWorks collection.
