On a Journey Overland from Amoy to Hankow in 1879 JSTOR JL

This article has a format of a journal. It talks about a journey in Amoy (which is a very important port in

Fujian nowadays). I find the article interesting because it not only presents historical facts of Amoy,

but also gives us a more objective view of how Amoy was like in the past.

The Introduction of American Food Plants into China JSTOR JL

Apparently, peanuts were first introduced in Fujian, and were one of the first American food plants in

China. Peanuts were introduced in Fujian, after trade was banned in Canton in 1522. I think that the

introduction of peanuts is very interesting. The article talks about the banning of trade, and the illegal

commercial activities in Fujian, which is related to the article that we had to read for our assignment.

Another interesting aspect of peanuts in Fujian is its importance to anthropologists. The introduction

of peanuts was helpful to the investigation of the other products in China, such as cotton and sweet

potato.
