Exercise S5-2: Finding Abstractions in the World
I went through my Flickr photostream looking for Abstract candidates, going back about 3 months. About the first third of the set were taken in Nova Scotia in the last week, after I read the Exercise, so they're clearly within the Rules of Engagement. The rest are an index of how my photographic engagement has been evolving.
I note that I've been seeking out non-representational patterns more since I first heard about the workshop, and that I've been seeing (and choosing to try to capture) the abstract more and more. Who knows where that will lead...
Processing has certainly altered the images from the RAW state, many have been desaturated or otherwise converted to monochrome, and some have been inverted. Otherwise, I think almost all are pretty much WYSIWYG: full frame/uncropped, as per instructions. I've kept mostly to the "anything else except obviously recognizable things" criterion, though my own take on abstraction is considerably more loosey-goosey, and I've spared the viewer a deep dive into tessellations and the hunt for creatures.
