Hiking the Appalachian Trail (1992-2003)

Betsy harbored AT-hiking fantasies from an early age, and Lexington VA was only 10 miles from a Blue Ridge trailhead. We started working our way through Virginia with weekend out-and-back hikes, then gradually transitioned to longer drives and rented cars. It took 11 years, but we did the whole thing as day hikes (with a couple of nights in White Mountain huts). We did very little photography along the way, most unfortunately, but I did write a lot of haiku/senryu during a month of hiking in Maine in 2002.
